Archeology at the Charles Pinckney
National Historic Site*

The Charles Pinckney National Historic Site was established in 1991 in recognition of the important role played by Charles Pinckney in the drafting of the U. S. Constitution and the transition of the United States from a group of colonies to a young nation. The site is located at  Pinckney's eighteenth century plantation near Charleston, South Carolina. The existing house, long thought by historians to be Charles Pinckney's residence, was discovered in 1991 to have been built about 1830 and not related to Pinckney. No other buildings from Pinckney's time were known to have been on the property. So where was the plantation of Pinckney's time? Had it been lost to history?
