NWISWeb Tutorial How to access historical water-quality data in your watershed |
Start at http://waterdata.usgs.gov/ (this link opens in a new window). Step 1Click on the blue Water quality button. Step 2Choose your state or territory under Geographic Area (in the upper right-hand corner of the page).
Step 3Click Samples.
Step 4Select
Hydrologic Unit in the first column and Site type in the
third column. Submit. Step 5Select
your Hydrologic Unit Code (HUC). What is
a HUC? Select Surface Water under Site type. Then scroll down
to Retrieve Water quality samples for Selected Sites and select
Inventory of Water-Quality data. Click Submit. Step 6You
may need to scroll down the page to locate all the stations with water-quality
data in your watershed. For each station, click on Inventory of water-quality
data with retrieval under Output Formats. You will get a table
like the one below that shows what kind of water-quality data are available
from this station, how many samples were collected, and when. Step 7Select the box(es) next to the data you want. Step 8Scroll
down the page, enter a range of dates to restrict the amount of data [optional],
and click Submit.
