Project ID: 2006KY62B

Title: Linking Land Use to Water Quality in Northern Kentucky

Project Type: Research

Start Date: 03/01/2006

End Date: 02/28/2007

Congressional District: KY 4th

Focus Categories: Surface Water, Water Quality, Non Point Pollution

Keywords: urbanization, eutrophication, nutrient loading, land use, TMDL

Principal Investigator: Evans, Rebecca (Northern Kentucky University)

Federal Funds: $5,000

Non-Federal Matching Funds: $10,240

Abstract: Given the current population growth and expansion of urbanized areas in northern Kentucky, it is imperative that we understand as much as possible about the impact of urbanization on local streams. To that end, this is a proposal to assess nutrient concentrations and eutrophic response variables in three Northern Kentucky streams, each with a different degree of urbanization. Data produced in this study can be used to quantify the degree of eutrophication, to assist in development of total maximum daily load (TMDL) criteria, and to better understand the relationship between land use and water quality in northern Kentucky streams.
