The Guam Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics is pleased to announce the release of the March 2007 Current Employment Report.
Employment Highlights
Total employment on Guam increased moderately over the latest quarter and year. The job total from the payroll survey increased by 1,050 from 58,730 jobs in March 2006 to 59,780 jobs in March 2007.
The number of jobs recorded on the private sector payroll of Guam employers increased by 230 jobs in the latest quarter and 810 over the latest one year period. Construction industry jobs accounted for most of the private sector increase with 410 jobs added in the latest quarter and 640 in the latest year. The Retail Trade division lost 240 jobs and the Hotel sector lost 130 jobs over the latest year.
Federal Government employment declined slightly by 40 jobs in the latest quarter but was up 70 over the year. Government of Guam numbers show an increase of 170 jobs over the comparable period of one year ago in March 2006.
Average hourly earnings and average weekly earnings in the private sector were up about two percent in the latest year. Average hourly earnings increased from $10.99 to $11.10 while average weekly earnings increased from $395.13 to $400.10. The industry composition with higher employment in construction increased the private sector average hourly and weekly earnings figures.
