Total employment on Guam rebounded in September 2008 from the usual dip in June related to lower summer employment in public and private educational institutions. The September 2008 job count showed an increase in the private sector of 410 jobs since June and up 1,340 jobs from one year ago.
In the latest quarter, employment in the Services category increased by 470 jobs. Significant changes over the same period in 2007 included increases of 900 jobs in construction and 340 in services.
Federal employment increased 140 jobs compared to the prior quarter and year’s figures. Government of Guam employment decreased 80 jobs over the comparable period of one year ago. Reduced Executive branch employment over the year was off-set by increased employment in autonomous agencies.
Average hourly earnings for private sector employees were up 2.5 percent over September one year ago, while average weekly hours paid showed little change.
Average hourly earnings, hours worked and average weekly earnings for Government of Guam Employees were virtually unchanged over the year.
