The Unemployment Situation on Guam: September 2007
The Guam Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics announced that the
September 2007 unemployment rate was 8.3 percent, an increase of 0.9 percentage
points from the 7.4 percent collected in September 2006. In September 2007, the
number of people employed reached 58,290, a decrease of 3,230 from the previous
results. Of the total employed, the immigrant aliens (PRA) category showed a decrease
of 1,810 from the September 2006 report of 16,150 to 14,340 in September 2007.
The total number of people unemployed in September 2007 was 5,310, an increase of
420 from the previous survey in September 2006 of 4,890 unemployed. The
unemployment rate for several of the reported categories increased.
The persons not in the labor force, who were persons not employed and not actively
looking for work, numbered 6,490, an increase of 6,590 from the previous survey of
39,900. Of the persons not in the labor force, 8,870 desired to work but did not search
for employment during the reference period for reasons presented in Table 2.
