The Guam Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics is pleased to release the September 2006 Unemployment Report.
The Unemployment Situation on Guam: September 2006
The Guam Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics announced that the
September 2006 unemployment rate was 7.4 percent, an increase of 0.5 percentage
points from the March 2006 report of 6.9 percent. In September 2006, the number of
people employed reached 61,520, an increase of 130 from the latest report of March
2006. Of the total employed, the U.S. citizen category showed a decrease of 1,180
from the March 2006 report of 46,550 to 45,370 in September 2006.
The total number of people unemployed in September 2006 was 4,890, an increase of
360 from the previous survey in March 2006 of 4,530 unemployed. The unemployment
rate for several of the reported categories increased while others decreased.
The persons not in the labor force, who were persons not employed and not actively
looking for work, numbered 39,900, an increase of 1,010 from the previous survey of
38,890. Of the persons not in the labor force, 4,840 desired to work but did not search
for employment during the reference period for reasons presented in Table 2.
