Summer storm drain stenciling planned for Delaware towns in Chesapeake Watershed

Storm Drain Marking LogoDNREC's Sediment and Stormwater Program and Watershed Assessment Section will be working with several towns within the Chesapeake Bay Watershed to adhere markers to storm drains within the town limits of Laurel, Greenwood, Seaford, and Bridgeville. DNREC will collaborate with the towns to establish a group of volunteers who will mark the drains. Click here to learn more about this program and to learn about other communities that have participated in the Delaware Storm Drain Marking Program.

NEW! Dune and coastal landscaping workshop - May 15, 9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., Bethany Beach Fire Company, Bethany Beach. With planting season fast approaching, homeowners and others with an interest in coastal landscaping are invited to a free educational workshop on the importance of sand dunes in Delaware, management and maintenance of dunes, control of invasive species, benefits of using native plants, and challenges of landscaping along the coast.

The Thank You Delaware Bay campaign was developed to showcase the beauty and amenities of the Delaware Bay and to encourage actions and activities that will help protect the bay's health and resources. The TYDB campaign sprang from a collaboration of DNREC's Division of Soil and Water Conservation, Delaware Coastal Programs, The Nature Conservancy, and the Partnership for the Delaware Estuary.

Yusuf Kose, age 6, of New Castle was presented a $100 check from the National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD) for his winning entry for grades K-1 in the Association’s national poster contest which this year had the theme "Water is Life." Paul Morrill, Chairman of the New Castle Conservation District (NCCD) made the presentation. The NACD contest gives grade, middle and high school students a creative outlet for their thoughts about soil, water and related natural resource issues. Yusuf's brother, Furkan Kose, also won first place in the the New Castle District's 2-3 grade poster competition.
