Workers Comp Rate Review

Stewart Achieves Immediate Relief for Delaware Employers

Insurance Commissioner Karen Weldin Stewart Secures Implementation of Former Commissioner Matt Denn's Order of Workers' Compensation Rate Reductions of 11.13% (voluntary) and 9.74% (residual) Effective December 1, 2008, Saving Businesses Tens of Millions of Dollars. The Commissioner's decision on the 2009 workers compensation rate application can be found here.

Workers compensation insurance companies in Delaware submit a rate application as a group once a year, and then each company uses that group application as a base for its rates. The Insurance Commissioner must review and approve the rates.

In 2005 and 2006, The Insurance Commissioner's Office held a public hearing on the combined workers comp insurance rate application, allowing the public as well as businesses and labor groups to comment on the proposed rates. Prior to this, a public hearing had never been held on these rate applications. The Insurance Commissioner's Office also hired an independent actuary with experience in workers comp to review the proposed rate increases.

Former Commissioner Matt Denn's decision on the 2005 workers compensation rate application can be found here. The Department of Insurance accepted public comments on the Delaware Compensation Rating Bureau's loss cost filing through the end of business on Monday, November 13, 2006.  The filing can be found at http://www.dcrb.com/shared/d_contents.htm.
