Water Conservation Program
In 1997, in response to the requirements of the Reclamation Reform Act, the Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation) created the Water Conservation Field Services Program (Program). The Program is designed to: encourage water conservation; assist water agencies to develop and implement effective water management and conservation plans; coordinate with state and other local conservation plan efforts; and generally foster improved water management on a regional, statewide, and watershed basis.
Areas of emphasis include:
- Water Management Planning
- Water Conservation Education
- Demonstration of Innovative Technologies
- Implementation of Conservation Measures
The LBAO has implemented the Program in the area office and has provided funding for water conservation plan development, feasibility studies, on-the-ground training in water measurement, agricultural education for water users, improved water measurement, demonstrations of various technologies for water measurement, training in design of water measurement devices for irrigation district personnel, installation of telemetry, and many other activities.
