Additional account types are now available on ACH debit method of payment. For details on other account types, see below.

Credits or Debits?

  • ACH Debits
You instruct the Department of Revenue to withdraw ACH debits from your bank account. You will receive a confirmation number when you use our debit program.  There are no charges for an electronic funds payment.  A small fee applies for a credit card payment.
  • ACH Credits
You instruct your bank to send us ACH credits. Some financial institutions give you a confirmation number when you use their credit programs.

Two ACH Programs

  • ACH Debit Program
If you would like to file and pay your withholding tax, rental vehicle tax or lodging facility tax or make payment for combined oil and gas production tax, cigarette tax, corporation license tax, liquor store payments, mineral royalty withholding tax, brewers and beer distributors tax and wineries and wine distributors tax using the ACH debit method, go to Business Tax Express to register.  The department generally approves your registration within one day if you are registered on our processing system as a business customer.  You will get an approval e-mail, then you are ready to make ACH debit payments for your business.
  • ACH Credit Program
If you would like to file and pay your withholding tax using the ACH credit method, you must complete the registration form and receive your Account ID from the Montana Department of Revenue.  Please complete and return the registration form. If you chose to use our ACH credit program, you will need to instruct your bank to send the Department of Revenue an electronic file. This file will tell us who you are, which tax you are paying and the tax period you are paying for. Your bank will send the file to us and transfer money from your account to ours. If your bank is already sending us ACH files, we can set you up in 24 hours. If your bank is not yet participating in our program, we can give you the instructions for getting them set up.  For complete details click ACH credits here.
