    CVS To Divest 120 Revco Drug Stores in VA, NY To Settle FTC Charges...
    CVS Corporation has agreed with the Federal Trade Commission to divest a total of 120 Revco drug stores or pharmacy counters -- 114 stores in Virginia and six pharmacy counters in the Binghamton, New York, area -- in order to maintain a level of competition that otherwise would have been substantially reduced by the CVS/Revco merger, the FTC said today.

    The Federal Trade Commission has extended the public comment period on whether to modify, rescind or retain the provisions of the Ophthalmic Practice Rules, which require eye care practitioners to release eyeglass prescriptions to their patients -- the "Prescription Release Rule" -- until September 2, 1997.

    The Federal Trade Commission has charged a western Colorado physicians’ organization -- which comprises at least 85 percent of the doctors in private practice in Mesa County -- with combining to fix the prices and other competitively significant terms of dealing with some third-party payers, and with collectively refusing to deal with other payers.

    Two Regional Supermarket Chains Settle FTC Charges of Failure To Notify Job Applicants re: Role Credit Reports Played in Turndowns
    The Federal Trade Commission has reached settlements with two regional grocery chains -- Aldi Inc., headquartered in Batavia, Illinois; and Bruno’s, Inc., based in Birmingham, Alabama, and which also does business under other names including Food World, Food Chain and Piggy Wiggley -- to resolve charges that they failed to tell job applicants denied employment when information in the applicants’ credit records played a role in the denials.

    FTC Law Judge Upholds Charges: Brake Guard Add-On Brakes Are Not ABS
    A Federal Trade Commission Administrative Law Judge has found that advertisements that claimed an add-on braking system performed as effectively as factory-installed ABS brakes are false, and has barred the marketers from using the term ABS in marketing their brakes.
