As a former 12 year Director with Mary Kay Cosmetics I applaud the FTC proposal of the new rules for Business Opportunities. Mary Kay and other multi-level marketing companies have built their empires on manipulation of people in a heightened state of emotionalism. They are afraid if a person has a chance to think the opportunity through they will change their mind. As a Director, I was always very conflicted about signing someone up without time for them to think about their decision. I was taught to close that person as soon as I sat down with them and discourage them from talking to others about their experiences so they would not be talked out of it. Mary Kay earns their income from selling the business to consultants and not to the consumer. That is why basements and e-bay are filled with the products. Their claims of being the best selling brand are based on sales to consultants and NOT to customers. This abuse must stop. I applaud this proposed ruling as being fair and reasonable and protecting the interests of the consumer. If the company was confident in their sale of their product they would not oppose this ruling either. Thanks you for your consideration of my comments. I feel this company has hurt enough people.
