On
August 7th, a bomb exploded in front of the Jordanian Embassy
in Baghdad, Iraq, killing 14 and injuring 50 people. On August
19th, a massive truck bomb ripped through the United Nations
base in Baghdad, killing its top envoy in Iraq, Sergio Vieira
de Mello, at least one American, and some 20 others, injuring
over 100 others.
As America
and its international partners once again find themselves
burying the dead and healing the wounded, we must continue
to focus international resources on identifying and tracking
down the killers. To this end, FBI experts are on the ground
in Bagdad, joining their colleagues in Iraq, first at the
site of the Jordanian Embassy, now at the Canal Hotel, site
of the UN headquarters.
FBI bomb
technicians, experts in document analysis, Evidence Response
Team members, and other Special Agent investigators are supporting
international efforts.
