Pavements

Climatic Inputs for Mechanistic-Empirical Pavement Design Workshop

Agenda

9:00 AM through 4:30 PM

Intended Audience: Pavement Designers, Materials Engineers, Geotechnical Engineers

  • Module 1: Overview of the EICM included in MEPDG (9 am - 10 am)

This module will outline the methodology incorporated in Enhanced Integrated Climatic Model used in the MEPDG to characterize the effects of climatic on pavement materials.

  • Module 2: Software Demonstration (10 am - 11:30 am)

This module will include a live demonstration of the MEPDG Software. The participants will be shown how to download the software and climatic files from the TRB website. All of the Modules of the software (General, Traffic, Climate and Structure) will be briefly shown and explained. Details on climatic module of the software will be stressed.

  • Lunch (11:30 am - 12:30 PM)

  • Module 3: Environmental Effects on Material Properties and Pavement Performance

This module will describe in detail the change of material(s) properties due to moisture and temperature fluctuations and the resulting pavement performance due to changes in climatic conditions as predicted with the MEPDG.

3a: Soils and Unbound Materials (12:30 PM - 1:30 PM)
    3b: Asphalt Materials (1:30 PM - 2:30 PM)
3c: Portland Cement Concrete Materials (2:30 PM - 3:30 PM)

  • Module 4: MEPDG General Status and Planned Enhancements (3:30 PM - 4 PM)

This module will discuss the status of the MEPDG. Details of the current Version as well as planned enhancements to the MEPDG will be discussed. A major focus of this module is the planned enhancements to the EICM.

  • Module 5: State Experience with MEPDG and Climate Data (4 PM - 4:30 PM)

  • Wrap Up
