Requests for lists of endangered species near a project site;
List Request

rule

What is a list request?  The Chesapeake Bay Field Office reviews proposed projects within the Maryland, Delaware and Washington D.C. region for potential impacts to federally listed endangered and threatened species, in accordance with Section 7 of the Endangered Species Act (ESA).

The first step in this process is to identify which, if any, endangered species occur near your project site. If using regular mail or email, project applicants must provide a USGS map and brief description of your project to us, and we then provide a list of any federally listed species in the project area and potential impacts for you to consider in your environmental review. If there are no endangered species present, you do not need to consult further.

List requests can be submitted through regular mail or email, and can also be expedited through use of this website. Contact information is below.

To use this tool to expedite your list request, please refer to the directions below:

Step 1: Determine which USGS 7.5 minute topographic quad map or maps your project and its impact zones occur on.
Step 2: Go to the table provided below and determine whether your project location is on any of the topographic quad maps listed. These maps don't have federally endangered or threatened species in the area at this time.
Step 3: 3A:  If your project area is located on any of these USGS topo quad maps listed below:
1)  Complete the Online Certification by indicating the name of the map the project occurs on, and provide a brief description of the project.
2)  Print out the Online Certification provided from this web site and save it in your files.
- OR- 3B:  If your project area is not on one of the USGS topographic maps listed below then do the following:
1)  Send a List Request Review letter, and provide a USGS map and brief description of the project.
2)   The Service will complete its review and respond to you in writing within 30 days of receipt of that information. This letter will identify what federally listed species may occur on or near your project area and describe the next step in the ESA process that must be completed.
