Join the CRIMEMAP Listserv
The CRIMEMAP listserv provides information on crime mapping and related technologies to more than 3,500 subscribers. Analysts, researchers, geographers and law enforcement can use the listserv to discuss crime mapping subjects. Past topics have included crime analysis, criminology, police practice, research and policy. Additionally, NIJ will make regular announcements about upcoming trainings, publications and conferences.
The listserv discusses technical, analytical and policy issues:
- Technical discussions examine how geographic information systems (GIS) and statistical software programs can help analysts study crime and geography. Past topics have included displaying crime mapping on the Web, Importing data into CrimeStat III, and structuring data for analysis in GIS.
- Analytical discussions investigate how crime mapping tools and statistical software can be used for crime analysis and debate potential research topics. Past topics have included estimating the population of police beats, analyzing travel patterns of runaways, studying the spatial distribution of auto theft, and evaluating the impact of geographic profiling.
- Policy discussions examine how crime mapping can influence public policy. Past topics have included altering police beat geographies, publishing crime maps and statistics, and establishing city ordinances to respond to changing crime trends.
