      Following today’s meeting between White House officials and representatives from the health care industry, U.S. Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-Texas), Chair of the Congressional Health Care Caucus, released the following statement: “Today’s meeting, coupled with yesterday’s letter from the health industry leaders, indicates that representatives from all sides of the health care debate are committed to working together, which I applaud.     • Burgess Encourages Caution in the Creation of Financial Commission

      Mr. Speaker, I am generally not in favor of commissions. I think Congress gives up too much of its power to commissions in my brief experience here. But this is one point that I think does call out for a commission . Certainly just as egregious as what happened to this country on 9/11 was what happened to this country in September 2008 when we experienced a financial meltdown. And to date, we have not looked back into the causes of the crisis and held anyone accountable. read more

    On Monday, July 14, 2008, Congressman Michael Burgess delivered a speech on the floor of the United States House of Representatives honoring and remembering the late Dr. Michael DeBakey.  Dr. DeBakey was a mentor of Rep. Burgess, a pioneer in medicine, and a recent Congressional Gold Medal recipient.
