As HHS begins to award Recovery Act funds, OIG is working with HHS management to minimize risk; assess controls to prevent fraud, waste, and abuse; and ensure that program goals are achieved and stimulus funds are accurately tracked and reported. OIG auditors are:
- Reviewing spending plans prepared by HHS management for each HHS Recovery Act program.
- Launching a Recovery Act risk assessment and work plan development team. The team is gaining an understanding of how each HHS agency plans to use, disburse, and monitor Recovery Act funds.
- Examining the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' plan for temporarily increasing the Medicaid Federal Medical Assistance Percentage and the controls in place to ensure that the increase is implemented as intended by the Recovery Act.
