FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- Seattle, WA -- March 11, 2009 --- Mighty-O of Seattle, WA is recalling Nutty Vanilla, Chocolate Chocolate with Nuts, and Nutty French Toast donuts produced before Feb. 18, 2009 because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. The donuts were manufactured using peanut products recalled by Peanut Corporation of America because they may be contaminated with Salmonella. Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

The Nutty Vanilla, Chocolate Chocolate with Nuts, and Nutty French Toast donuts were distributed in Seattle, WA and the Puget Sound area through retail stores, coffee shop displays, and bulk bins, and through Mighty-O's retail cafe. Donuts were also distributed to Seattle, WA Food Banks. There are no specific UPC codes or package labeling, although stores may display a sign that says "Mighty-O Donuts, the organic donut, certified organic ingredients, dairy and egg free, trans-fat free, locally owned." Donuts produced on Feb. 18 or afterwards are not affected by the recall.

No known illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this product. The recall was initiated after one of Mighty-O's suppliers announced a precautionary, voluntary measure to assure customers are taking every precaution possible for their safety. Mighty-O has informed FDA of its actions and is fully cooperating with the Agency.

Consumers who have peanut-topped donuts purchased before Feb. 18, 2009 should dispose of these donuts immediately. Consumers with any questions may contact the company at 206-547-0335, Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM (PDT).
