FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- April 7, 2009 -- Anton-Argires, Inc. of Alsip, IL is expanding its recall to comply with the Setton Pistachio expansion of their recall to include all in the shell pistachio products packaged under the ARGIRES Brand label. The in the shell pistachios added to our recall list now include all red, natural roasted or salted, chili limon flavored and habanero (jalapeno) flavored pistachios packaged in ARGIRES BRAND packages as listed below. These products have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
These items were distributed in Illinois through retail stores, direct home delivery and through mail order. Argires bought their pistachios from Setton Farms and repackaged them into the items listed in this recall.
The products being recalled have an ARGIRES logo on them. They are packaged in clear, recloseable containers (tubs), in clear bags with an ARGIRES label, or packaged in a preprinted blue bag with the Argires logo. Pack dates subject to recall are 08270 to 09089 (YYDDD) or 2702008 to 0892009 (DDDYYYY).
Specific items included in this recall and their UPC Code Numbers are as follows: Natural Salted Pistachios In Shell 16oz (UPC Code: 079003 30131), Red Pistachios In Shell 16oz (UPC Code: 079003 30221), Natural Salted Pistachios In Shell 1.5 oz, Natural Salted Pistachios In Shell 12oz (UPC Code: 079003 30132), Natural Salted Pistachios In Shell 8oz (UPC Code: 079003 30130), Chili Limon Flavored Pistachios In Shell 12oz (UPC Code: 079003 73602), Habanero Flavored Pistachios In Shell 12oz (UPC Code: 079003 73603), Natural Salted Pistachios In Shell 12oz (UPC Code: 079003 73604), Red Pistachios In Shell 12oz (UPC Code: 079003 73606), Natural Salted Pistachios In Shell 4oz (UPC Code: 079003 53604).
No illnesses have been reported to date.
Consumers who have purchased the Argires brand shelled in the shell roasted, salted or flavored pistachios with pack dates listed above are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 1-800-837-0100.
