Mass Storage Statistics at NERSC
We collect statistics about our storage systems so that we can plan for
future needs and so that we can report on utilization. We use
HPSS collected statistics, HPSS accounting records and log
files provided by the hsi and ftp servers.
- Data Rate vs. File Size
- Aggregate Transfer Bandwidth
- Concurrent Transfers
- Transfer Activity
|
This year NERSC's HPSS Storage Systems will transfer almost
one petabyte of data.
These graphs each show the data for one day, either as scatter
plots, or as line graphs. For most of the graphs, links are
also provided for the last 8 days of activity, and for a
selected day over each of the last five years to provide
a historical perspective. The historical days were
the days of highest I/O traffic during each year.
|
- Total Bytes Utilized
- Number of Files Stored
- Monthly I/O
- Number of Tape Mounts
|
Each year the Storage Systems grow by about a factor
of 1.7x.
The primary graphs here show data by month for the time that HPSS
has been in operation. Secondary graphs show 30 days of data on
I/O and annual pie charts of the data volume and destinations over
the years.

These graphs provide a brief summary of storage system
use by the principal scientific disciplines as identified
by DOE.

These graphs provide access to the statistics collected by
sampling the HPSS metadata. They provide for some
interactive data selection. Java is required.
