AESDirect Changes Coming October 1st
Beginning October 1, 2008, changes will be made to the AESDirect administrative process to both increase the security of your Export data and to increase the flexibility and ease of accessing the application.
These changes include:
- Individual User Account Administration
- Stronger Password Requirements
- Shorter Password Expiration Time frames
- Automatic Inactive Account Deactivation
- Session Timeout/Concurrent Login Limits
- Account Lockout after 3 Unsuccessful Logins
- Expanded Account Administration Function
Over the past several months you should have received two newsletters which broadly outline these changes.
These newsletters, along with a new AESDirect Account Administration User Guide, which details all of the changes, can be viewed here:
These changes will be phased in over a period of months. Each AESDirect account holder will be phased in based on the expiration date of their existing AESDirect Username.
On October 1st, however, three changes will be immediately noticeable:
- SEDs now EEI - All references to Shippers Export Declaration (SEDs) will be replaced to by Electronic Export Information (EEI) to bring the application in line with language used in the new mandatory filing regulations.
- New Login Screen - The pop-up login window has been discontinued. When you click Login from AESDirect, you will be direct to a page that includes both the legal terms of access to AESDirect and the fields for your Company's Username and Password.
- Session Timeout - In preparation for the new secure login features, all AESDirect users will timeout after 30 minutes of activity. That is, if you login to AESDirect and do not complete any action for 30 minutes or more, you will be automatically logged out of AESDirect. If this occurs, you will be required to log back into AESDirect and your data will be lost.
A pop-up window will alert 5 minutes before a session times out. You will be given the opportunity to continue. Any action, such as opening a window or moving to a new function, will reset that 30 minute clock.
