About Roadside Inspections

The Roadside Inspection (RI) sub-module provides summarized data for three calendar years on all RIs conducted on motor carriers that transport property or passengers in interstate or intrastate commerce.

As shown in the chart at the right, as reported in MCMIS (data source: March 28, 2008), the total number of inspections performed in 2006 increased by approximately 10%.

Although the number of inspections performed over the last three years (from 2005-2007) has fluxuated, the Driver and Vehicle Out-of-Service (OOS) rates have not changed significantly

The Driver OOS rate is based on inspection levels 1,2, and 3 and the Vehicle OOS rate is based on inspection levels 1,2, and 5.
