DoD Strengthening Our Military Families
Strengthening Our Military Families: Meeting America’s Commitment is the result of an effort led
by the National Security Staff and Domestic Policy Council responding to the Presidential Study Directive-9
calling on all Cabinet Secretaries and other agency heads to find better ways to provide our military families with
the support they deserve. The result will be a unified Federal Government approach that advances 50 new initiatives
across 16 federal agencies on issues such as child care, mental health, education, employment, and housing.
Military Community and Family Policy
The Office of the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Military Community and Family Policy is directly
responsible for programs and policies which establish and support community quality of life programs on military
installations for service members and their families worldwide.
Army Family Programs
Army Well-Being is directly linked to the relevance and readiness of our Army.
Well- Being programs focus on meeting the needs of Soldiers (Active Duty, Army National Guard and Army Reserve),
DA Civilians, Veterans, Retirees and Families - before, during and after deployment.
The Fleet and Family Support Center
Fleet and Family Readiness (FFR) Programs at Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC) is responsible for policy development,
resourcing and oversight of quality of life programs for Sailors and their families. FFR enables a ready Navy force through programs such as Family Readiness,
Fleet Readiness and Housing programs.
Focus Project
The FOCUS Project (Families OverComing Under Stress is a resiliency-training program for military families and
children to help them meet the challenges of combat operational stress during wartime. Working with the existing teams of dedicated military family services personnel,
FOCUS staff assists families in understanding how combat operational stress affects them and the service family member, how to manage stress, and how to strengthen their family.
FOCUS currently serves military families at 9 different Navy sites.

Armed Forces Crossroads Web site is a one-stop location for Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, Navy, Reserve and
National Guard members/families to access on/off base information worldwide. It Includes information on relocation, deployment, transition, employment, and community resources.

- USAPHC HOOAH for Health, Family Matters Related to Deployment Page (The US Army Public Health Command (USAPHC) created this Web Page to assist families, especially Reserve Component families, in dealing with deployment.)
