Fishing

Sacramento River NWR, Packer Unit
Packer Lake is open daily for fishing from sunrise to sunset, year-round. The best time for angling is March-November for species such as bluegill and largemouth bass. A narrow, dirt road provides access to an unimproved boat launch area (for car top boats, no trailers). The entrance and exit is from the north end of the road. This is a primitive area---no facilities are available. For information on location and access visit the Sacramento River - A Guide to Recreation and Public Access.

Packer Unit Fishing Regulations:
  • Day use only.
  • Campfires and firearms are prohibited.
  • Fishing is permitted from a boat or from the west shore only.
  • All fishing activities are subject to the California Department of Fish and Game Sport Fishing Regulations.
  • There is a fine for littering. Be a land steward and take out what you bring in.
