Brief Biography

After approximately 16-1/2 years of basic laboratory research here in the Dental Institute, all of which required familiarity with a wide variety of computer applications, my interests shifted from basic research to the computer field. Laboratory work included the study of several enzymes involved in metabolic processes of a variety of organisms; both from the approach of purification of the enzymes and examination of the kinetics of their reactions as well as by sequencing genes responsible for production of sugar metabolic enzymes in oral bacteria. After leaving the laboratory, I was fortunate to be able to stay with the Division of Intramural Research where I have been able to apply my scientific background to supporting researchers who use the Genetics Computer Group Sequence Analysis Software the Scientific Systems Core Facility maintains as a service to DIR staff. In addition, I have been able to indulge my passion for Macintosh computers and software through supporting the DIR staff in all aspects of desktop computer usage. The best description I can offer of the tasks I do for DIR staff as an employee of the SSCF is that I am truly a "jack of all trades - master of none." I don't always know all the answers, but I usually know where to start looking.

Since 1999, I have been working on the phased renovation process that NIDCR has been doing to modernize our facilities. My specific area of involvement with this process has to do with how this renovation impacts our network and telephone installations in Building 30 and our space in Building 10. I will continue to work with contractors (construction and wiring groups), architects, DIR staff and CIT Telecommunications and Network groups to assist in the design and implementation of changes in our network infrastructure and modernization of our phone service until the renovations are completed.
