Park Planning

The National Parks and Recreation Act of 1978 tasked the National Park Service to prepare General Management Plans for all national park units. The purpose of the General Management Plan is:

1) To clearly describe specific resource conditions and visitor experiences in various management units throughout the park and

2) To identify the kinds of management, use, and development that will be appropriate to achieving and maintaining those conditions.

Tonto National Monument's General Management Plan was completed in 2003. This is a very large PDF file.

Did You Know?
It is likely the early inhabitants of Atsinna Pueblo at El Morro National Monument collected water when they could from the many tinajas found across the top of the mesa. These natural depressions in the sandstone hold rain during the summer monsoons and snowmelt during the winter.
