Car Removal
Car Removal

A scenic back drop of bay and forest with an old rusty car may not be what you envision when your property abuts a national wildlife refuge.  One concerned citizen let staff at the Potomac River NWR Complex know just that.  The complaint, initially reported to Prince William County, led to discussions between refuge and county officials about where the car occurred, federal or city lands.  Discussions led to partnership.  Prince William County Environmental Services Division partnered with the refuge to remove the abandoned rusty 1960's Buick from Featherstone National Wildlife Refuge in January of 2008.  The partnership resulted in the car being moved and the county and refuge splitting costs and personnel to make sure the project happened.  The vehicle is no longer an "eyesore" to nearby residents.
