AK PENINSULA: Girls in King Salmon Encouraged Toward Science Careers
Alaska Region, May 7, 2007
Print Friendly Version

Wildlife Biologist Susan Savage and Refuge Ranger Michelle Franulovich participated in the first ever King Salmon Women in Science Conference. The conference, which was sponsored by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Agency, was aimed to attract high school girls that are considering science as a career. The evening event offered presentations from women holding positions with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, National Park Service and National Weather Service. Each of the profiled women explained and highlighted her scientific or career specialty. Young women were encouraged to pursue not only a scientific career but also a career in Federal service. All of the presenters were also made available, by way of the conference, to form a mentoring system for young women.
