Fish Health Overview presented to Michigan Aquaculture Association
Midwest Region, August 22, 2006
Print Friendly Version

Ken Phillips, La Crosse Fish Health Center, gave a presentation to the Michigan Aquaculture Association during their August 22 meeting, at the Jordan River NFH.

The causes and symptoms of numerous bacterial, parasitic, and viral diseases of salmonid fishes (including furunculosis, enteric red mouth, bacterial kidney disease, viral hemorrhagic septicemia, and whirling disease) were presented to the group.

The group had questions concerning viral hemorrhagic septicemia, a viral disease of international concern that has been responsible for numerous kills of warm and cool water fish in Lakes Erie, Ontario, and St. Claire.

The group was provided with 78 copies of Introduction to Fish Health, the book published by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and used as a reference for the Health Center's Introduction to Fish Health course.
