Wallkill River Refuge and Partners Dedicate Liberty Marsh Wetland Project
Northeast Region, October 7, 2005
Print Friendly Version

The staff of Wallkill River NWR hosted the dedication of the 350-acre Liberty Marsh Restoration Project. A partnershup with Ducks Unlimited, the State of New Jersey and NAWCC, the project included the establishment of 7 impoundments in two states. Among the attendees were two reporters, NWRS Acting Area Supervisor Howard Schlagel, New Jersey Fish and Wildlife Director Marty McHugh, a representative from Congressman Scott Garrett's office, former NJF&W Director Bob McDowell, a county freeholder, a local mayor and many DU officials. The event included a ribbon cutting, a series of short remarks, a demonstration on impoundment management by Refuge Biologist Kevin Holcomb and interviews with the reporters. The morning was a terrific success and a prime example of how partnerships can result in huge dividends for everyone involved.
