Valentines Day Icon

On Valentine's Day...temperatures can vary greatly. Low temperatures can fall into the teens while high temperatures can soar into the lower 80s. One constant for the holiday, however, is the frequency of precipitation. A trace of rain or more falls about once every three years in College Station and Galveston, and almost every other year in Houston. Subfreezing temperatures occur about once every nine years in the College Station area and once every twelve years in the Houston area. Although the coast is usually spared sub-freezing temperatures by mid- February...an occasional cold spell is still possible.

The worst snowstorm to ever affect the upper Texas coastal plain occurred February 12-15, 1895. Ten to as much as twenty inches of snow fell from central Brazoria county to northern Orange county. Houston reported 20 inches of snow on February 14-15th while Galveston reported 15 inches. On February 12-13th, 1960, another 2 to 4 inches of snow affected the area. Six of the ten largest snowfalls to affect the Houston area have occurred in mid-February.

The following tables will show the five warmest...coldest and wettest Valentine's Days across the area.
