GUYANESE NATIONAL SENTENCED TO FIVE YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON FOR ILLEGALLY RE-ENTERING THE U.S.

Kevin J. O’Connor, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that SEAN ALLICOCK, also known as Shane Allicock, 35, a citizen of Guyana last residing in Waterbury, was sentenced today by Chief United States District Judge Robert N. Chatigny in Hartford to 60 months of imprisonment.  On October 9, 2007, ALLICOCK pleaded guilty to one count of illegally re-entering the United States after his removal to Guyana.

According to documents filed with the Court and statements made in court, on July 13, 2006, ALLICOCK was found in Waterbury, Connecticut, having re-entered the United States after being deported to Guyana in December 1998 subsequent to a conviction for committing an aggravated felony.

Before re-entering the United States, anyone who has been deported must have the express consent of the U.S. Attorney General or his successor, the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security.

ALLICOCK has been in state custody since he was arrested in July 2006 on state larceny charges.  He is scheduled to be sentenced tomorrow on the state charges in Waterbury Superior Court.

ALLICOCK again faces deportation to Guyana following service of his term of imprisonment.

This case was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (“ICE”).  The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Paul Murphy.
