WINDSOR MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO MAKING FALSE STATEMENT

Kevin J. O’Connor, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, today announced that CLIFTON HENRY, 39, of Windsor, Connecticut and Chandler, Arizona, pleaded guilty yesterday, October 1, before United States District Judge Alvin W. Thompson in Hartford to one count of making a false statement to a federal law enforcement officer.

According to documents filed with the Court and statements made in court, HENRY knowingly and willfully made a false statement and representation when he told the Internal Revenue Service that approximately $240,000 in cash, both genuine and counterfeit, which was seized from him by the Connecticut State Police at the Foxwoods Casino on June 25, 2007, was the proceeds of the sale of his business assets, as well as gambling proceeds and money loaned to him for the purpose of gambling.  In truth, the vast majority of this money did not come from any of these sources.

Judge Thompson has scheduled sentencing for December 20, 2007, at which time HENRY faces a maximum term of imprisonment of five years and a fine of up to $250,000.  HENRY also has agreed to forfeit to the Government $228,027 in U.S. currency that was seized from him by the Connecticut State Police.

This matter was investigated by the United States Secret Service, the Internal Revenue Service-Criminal Investigation Division, and the Connecticut State Police.  The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney David A. Ring.
