COCAINE TRAFFICKER SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON

Kevin J. O’Connor, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced MARLON DONOVAN SPAULDING, age 31, of Waterbury, Connecticut, was sentenced today by United States District Judge Stefan R. Underhill in Bridgeport to 120 months of imprisonment, followed by eight years of supervised release. On April 21, 2006, SPAULDING pleaded guilty to one count of conspiring to possess with intent to distribute, and to distribute, 500 grams or more of cocaine.

According to documents filed with the Court and statements made in court, on several occasions between May 2005 and August 2005, SPAULDING sold cocaine both to an individual cooperating with law enforcement and a DEA agent acting in an undercover capacity. In addition, in August 2005, SPAULDING traveled to Oakland, California, where he packaged approximately 500 grams of cocaine inside two plastic duck lawn ornaments, and then attempted to ship the package via overnight mail to a location in Connecticut.

SPAULDING has been incarcerated since his arrest on August 19, 2005.

This case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Felice M. Duffy.
