PHARMACY TECHNICIAN SENTENCED FOR STEALING AND SELLING OXYCONTIN

Kevin J. O’Connor, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that SCOTT JENCO, age 33, of 48 Horizon Drive, Willimantic, Connecticut, was sentenced today by United States District Judge Christopher F. Droney in Hartford to forty-six months imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release. On December 1, 2006, JENCO waived indictment and pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to possess and distribute Oxycontin.

According to documents filed with the Court and statements made in court, from August 2003 through June10, 2004, JENCO worked as a pharmacy technician at Marlborough Pharmacy, located in Marlborough, Connecticut. At that time, the pharmacy was family owned. As part of his plea, JENCO admitted that he forged prescriptions and removed large amounts of Oxycontin, a Schedule II controlled substance, from Marlborough Pharmacy, then sold and distributed the Oxycontin to other individuals. JENCO admitted that he distributed 1,000 doses of individual Oxycontin pills.

“Abuse of pharmaceutical drugs is a continuing problem,” U.S. Attorney O’Connor stated. “This sentence shows that anyone involved in illegal distribution of prescription drugs faces serious consequences.”

This investigation was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney David J. Sheldon.
