CHESHIRE MAN SENTENCED TO FEDERAL PRISON FOR EMBEZZLING CLIENT FUNDS

Nora R. Dannehy, Acting United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that THOMAS CIMINI, 51, of Mt. Sanford Road, Cheshire, was sentenced today by Senior United States District Judge Ellen Bree Burns in New Haven to five months of imprisonment for stealing approximately $68,000 in monies entrusted to him by three real estate investment clients.  Judge Burns also ordered CIMINI to serve a three-year term of supervised release, the first five months of which CIMINI must spend in home confinement, following his term of imprisonment.  On August 7, 2008, CIMINI waived his right to indictment and pleaded guilty to one count of interstate transportation of stolen monies.

According to documents filed with the Court and statements made in court, CIMINI owned and ran TAC Realty LLC, a real estate investment company.  From approximately November 2005 through March 2006, CIMINI convinced certain clients to invest monies with TAC Realty LLC and CIMINI.  CIMINI represented that their monies would be pooled and invested in various real estate/business ventures for the benefit of the clients.  Confronted with a range of additional financial obligations and expenses, CIMINI stole approximately $68,000 in invested monies to spend on a series of unrelated expenditures.

CIMINI has agreed to pay restitution in the total amount of $141,000, which represents the money he stole in addition to other losses suffered by his victims.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Christopher W. Schmeisser.
