NEW YORK MAN SENTENCED TO FIVE YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON FOR TRAFFICKING HEROIN

Nora R. Dannehy, Acting United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that FELIX A. EDUA, 33, a citizen of the Dominican Republic last residing on Lexington Avenue, New York, New York, was sentenced today by Senior United States District Judge Alfred V. Covello in Hartford to 60 months of imprisonment for possessing with intent to distribute 100 grams or more of heroin.  EDUA pleaded guilty to the offense on July 24, 2008.

According to documents filed with the Court and statements made in court, on April 2, 2008, EDUA drove a black 1996 Acura 3.5RL from New York City to Stratford, Connecticut, in order to sell heroin.  EDUA was arrested by members of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Safe Streets Task Force and the Bridgeport Police Department, Tactical Narcotics Team after a search of his vehicle revealed approximately 270 grams of heroin located on the back seat of the vehicle in a plastic shopping bag, and also in a hidden compartment underneath the center console of the vehicle.  The heroin, which had a local street value of approximately $40,000, was packaged for distribution and marked with the brand names “Jersey Drive,” “Big 10” or “Subway.”

As part of his guilty plea, EDUA has forfeited the Acura 3.5 RL Sedan and $550 in cash.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Safe Streets Task Force, in conjunction with the Bridgeport Police Department, Tactical Narcotics Team.  The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney William M. Brown, Jr.
