EAST HAVEN WOMAN CONVICTED OF CONSPIRACY TO DISTRIBUTE CRACK COCAINE

Kevin J. O’Connor, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that a federal jury yesterday convicted JENNIFER VALLOMBROSO, age 31, of East Haven, Connecticut, on one count of conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine.  The three-day trial was held before United States District Judge Janet Bond Arterton in New Haven, and the verdict was returned on February 27.

At trial, the evidence established that VALLOMBROSO had conspired with her husband on several occasions in April and May 2007 to sell crack cocaine to a government informant.  VALLOMBROSO’s attorney argued at trial that VALLOMBROSO addicted to crack and heroin and was therefore not responsible for her actions.

VALLOMBROSO is scheduled to be sentenced on May 16, 2008, at which time she faces a mandatory minimum term of imprisonment of five years, a maximum term of imprisonment of 40 years and a fine of up to $2,000,000.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Branford Police Department, with assistance from the Connecticut State Police and the Drug Enforcement Administration.  The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Edward Chang.
