The Prairie Pothole National Priority Area consists of specific counties within the States of Iowa,
Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota or South Dakota.
If the Governor of a Prairie Pothole National Priority Area designated-State elects to
make section 508(o) of the Federal Crop Insurance Act effective for the State, any native sod acreage
greater than 5 acres within the Prairie Pothole National Priority Area that has been tilled for the
production of an annual crop after May 22, 2008, will not be insurable for the first 5 crop years
following the date the native sod acreage is tilled. If the Governor makes this election for any State,
RMA will announce the election via a Manager's Bulletin and on this page.
