Presidential Library and Museum

The Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum houses papers and collections relating to both President and Mrs. Hoover. Former presidents Hoover and Truman dedicated the library in 1962. The National Archives and Records Administration operates this and eleven other Presidential Libraries and Museums.

The Presidential Library and Museum has a 22-minute film and extensive exhibits on Herbert Hoover's life and career plus temporary exhibits and a gift shop. Allow yourself at least two hours to visit the Presidential Library and Museum.

The museum exhibits allow visitors to see the many sides of Iowa’s only President. Hoover’s careers as mining engineer, Secretary of Commerce, 31st President of the United States, and great humanitarian are depicted in the permanent galleries. The library and archives are open to researchers by appointment.

The temporary gallery has special exhibits three times a year. The museum is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and is closed on Thanksgiving, December 25, and January 1. For more information call (319) 643-5301 or visit the museum web site.

The Presidential Library and Museum has no steps. The museum galleries, gift shop, water fountain, and restrooms are all wheelchair accessible. The movie is close captioned and wheelchair seating is available in the back row. Portions of the permanent exhibits are available on captioned video.
