November 25, 2008 -- EPA issued an advance notice of proposed rulemaking (ANPR) on formaldehyde emissions from pressed wood products to investigate whether and what type of regulatory or other action might be appropriate to protect against risks posed by formaldehyde emitted from pressed wood products.
EPA has broad authority under the law to issue:
- Information collection regulations that require the submission of health and safety studies which are known or available to those who manufacture, process, or distribute in commerce specified chemicals; and
- Regulations designed to gather information from manufacturers and processors about production/import volumes, chemical uses and methods of disposal, and the extent to which people and the environment are exposed.
