The Arizona Health Sciences Center at The University of Arizona

The Arizona Health Sciences Center (AHSC) at The University of Arizona is a network of health-related organizations and activities unique in the state and region. Arizona’s only academic health sciences center, AHSC is based on the campus of The University of Arizona in Tucson and maintains a growing presence on the Phoenix Biomedical Campus in downtown Phoenix. From these vantage points, AHSC reaches across the state of Arizona and well beyond its borders to provide health-care education, research, patient care and service for Arizonans and their neighbors today and in the future.

AHSC includes The University of Arizona College of Medicine, Tucson program, and The University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix in partnership with Arizona State University; the UA College of Nursing; the UA College of Pharmacy; the UA Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health; University Medical Center; University Physicians Healthcare; and the Arizona Cancer Center.

UA Professor is New Director of Indian Health Service

The U.S. Senate has confirmed President Barack Obama's nomination of Dr. Yvette Roubideaux as director of the Indian Health Service in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The White House says the May 6 vote to confirm was unanimous. Dr. Roubideaux is an assistant professor of family and community medicine at The University of Arizona College of Medicine.

Interdisciplinary class focuses on influenza pandemic, teamwork

 

Richard Carmona, MD, 17th Surgeon General of the United States, addressed hundreds of UA students who gathered with faculty and community members at AHSC to discuss strategies in the event of an influenza pandemic. Dr. Carmona stressed the importance of teamwork, recognizing the need for a variety of expertise when meeting the challenges of adverse times. The three-hour interdisciplinary class, held in February 2009, brought more than 400 students together from the UA Colleges of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy and Law and the UA Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health.
