Dr. Barba M. Koroma joined the National Library of Medicine - Medical Subject Headings Section, in November 2008. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological sciences (University of Sierra Leone), Master of Science in Seed Technology (University of Edinburgh, Scotland, UK), PhD in Crop Science with a concentration in Plant Biochemistry and Biotechnology (North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC), Certificate in Technology Transfer (USDA Graduate School, Washington, DC), and more recently, a Master of Arts degree in Education and Human Development with a concentration in Human Resource Development (George Washington University, Washington, DC).

Dr. Koroma was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at The Wilmer Eye Institute of Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore, Maryland; Research Assistant Professor at George Washington University Medical Center; Patent Information Scientist, ASRC Aerospace Inc.; Patent Examiner, US Patent and Trademark Office; and Technical Specialist at Kenyon and Kenyon, LLC. His biomedical research experience focused on the pharmacologic regulation of signal transduction by tyrosine kinases as a model for understanding the etiology of retinal neovascularization; expression of homeobox gene Pax6 during eye development and in congenital aniridia; and protein profile changes associated with prostate neoplasms in an in vitro model.
