Development of HEC 26 - Design of Fish Passage for Bridges and CulvertsThe Federal Highway Administration and Washington State University (WSU) are collaborating to produce Hydraulic Engineering Circular 26: "Design of Fish Passage for Bridges and Culverts"; a comprehensive manual for the design or retrofit of a stream crossing to meet fish passage requirements. Input from State Departments of Transportation, non-governmental organizations, and other interested parties will be combined with new research and an extensive literature review to compile design methods, culvert and stream assessment techniques, case studies, and design examples. The manual will provide a set of guidelines to any party interested in the design or retrofit of culverts and bridges to meet fish passage requirements, and is intended to streamline the design. For more information on this effort, including access to presentations from the 2006 Fish Passage Summit (co-sponsored by FHWA, WSU, and State DOTs), please refer to the following website: http://fishpassage.wsu.edu/overview/ |
