Washington, DC - The Advisory Council on Employee Welfare and Pension Benefit Plans and its three working groups will meet August 9-11, in Room N-4437 A-C at the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), 200 Constitution Avenue, Washington, DC.
The full council will hold its 134th meeting on August 10 from 9 to 9:45 a.m. to discuss the progress of the working groups and to receive an update on the activities of the Employee Benefits Security Administration.
The Working Group on a Prudent Investment Process will meet from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on August 9. The group will study selected issues regarding the prudent investment process for both defined benefit and participant-directed defined contribution plans.
The meeting of the Working Group on Health Information Technology will be held on August 10 from 9:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. The group’s focus will be how the federal government and private sector can adopt health information technology using unified standards.
On August 11, the Working Group on Plan Asset Rules, Exemptions and Cross Trading will convene from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It will focus on whether DOL should clarify or modify the existing plan asset regulation, and if the department should issue broader exemption relief for cross trading.

The ERISA Advisory Council consists of 15 members, appointed to staggered three-year terms by the Secretary of Labor to provide advice on policies and regulations affecting employee benefit plans governed by the Employee Retirement Income Security Act. The members represent the general public, employers, employee organizations and the fields of insurance, corporate trust, investment management, investment counseling, accounting and actuarial counseling.
