Featured InitiativesMarch For Meals & Mayors For MealsMarch For Meals is an annual national campaign, held in March of every year, and designed to increase public awareness, recruit new volunteers and increase funding for Members of the Meals On Wheels Association of America (MOWAA) Member local Senior Nutrition Programs. We All Love Our Pets (WALOP)Until the Meals On Wheels Association of America (MOWAA) established WALOP in 2006, there was no national initiative to call attention to the importance of pets to the well being of isolated seniors. The Rural Initiative While Senior Nutrition Programs across the United States share problems common to all of them—such as a growing aging population and limited resources—Senior Nutrition Programs in rural areas face unique challenges such as time, distance, cost and labor. Sustainability GrantsHow can we end senior hunger? How can we prepare for the increased demand for our services in the coming years? The Meals On Wheels Association of America (MOWAA) provides grants to MOWAA Members to build creative and sustainable programs to end senior hunger in their local area. Fire H.E.L.P. Residential Fire H.E.L.P. (Homebound Elderly Lifeline Project) is an innovative training project conducted by the Meals On Wheels Association of America (MOWAA) in partnership with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC), to promote residential safety and reduce fire-related injuries and loss of life and property among the homebound elderly. The National Center for Nutrition LeadershipWe believe we can end hunger through educating you, our Members and Affiliates, and preparing you to cope with your needs now and in the future. As a result, we have created a Certificate Program, expressly designed for MOWAA with targeted training in fields of interest to you at a price and pace you can afford. The National Response to Senior HungerTo be successful and to accomplish MOWAA’s mission that “. . .no senior goes hungry”® - which we firmly believe should be America’s mission - we need to formulate a formal, serious and concerted multi-sectored national effort.
