Alibates Flint Quarries National Monument - News (U.S. National Park Service)

NOTICE – Superintendent Cindy Ott-Jones announced that the National Park Service will prepare a General Management Plan (GMP) for Lake Meredith National Recreation Area and Alibates Flint Quarries National Monument. This plan will articulate the long-term vision that will guide management of the recreation area and the national monument for approximately the next 15 to 20 years. Scoping is an opportunity early in the planning process for the public, organizations, and other agencies to suggest issues and alternatives that should be considered by the National Park Service in preparing the General Management Plan. The GMP process will explore different approaches to preserve the important recreational opportunities, natural resources, and cultural histories of the two parks and continue to make them educational and inspirational places for all to visit and enjoy. Because the General Management Plan is developed through an interactive planning process, the GMP also represents an agreement with the American public about how the park unit will be managed in the future, including resource conditions, opportunities for visitor experiences, and types and locations for visitor access.
