Gun Lake Tribe: Juvenile Lake Sturgeon Assessments in the Kalamazoo and Grand Rivers, Michigan

This $189,531 federal grant and $48,452 match will provide the research necessary for the assessment of juvenile lake sturgeon which will assist the fishery managers in developing restoration and management plans for each remnant population; the rehabilitation of this species will be aided by identification of nursery habitats in riverine environments through characterizing the habitat use and movements of juvenile fish and the distribution of information on the West Michigan lake sturgeon restoration effort including cultural connections and tribal involvement in research and restoration.
